Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Why purchase transit protection?

It’s always a good idea to purchase transit protection. While the staff at Secure Freight International (P) Ltd. are professionals in all of their work, there is always some risk when doing freight forwarding.  These risks are usually outside of our control (or anyone’s control) which can affect the shipping of your goods. Secure Freight International (P) Ltd. always encourages every client to purchase this type of insurance. It is inexpensive and offers a wonderful peace of mind should in the rare instance anything goes wrong.

  • What will the policy cover?

This policy covers “all risks” coverage from door to door. This includes:

    • Partial loss or damage to shipment

    • Total loss of shipment

    • Damage due to riots, war at sea and terrorism

    • Breakage due to mishandling at any point until delivery

    • Fire

    • Water damage

This policy is valid for 45 days for an air shipment and 90 days for an ocean shipment from the day it is dispatched from Nepal. This time can be extended if needed by the client at a very nominal extension fees.

  • How Do I Arrange This Coverage?

You simply have to provide Secure Freight International  (P) Ltd. a valued inventory list and the insurance policy will be issued within a few hours.

  • How Do I Determine The Amount of Coverage I Will Need?

There is no perfect formula to determine the exact value of the shipment to be insured, but there are a few general guidelines which will help to ensure proper coverage amounts. This includes providing a full and detailed inventory of all your household and commercial goods. You should value these goods at their replacement costs in today’s prices (Example: a dinner set bought in 1990 for USD 100 may cost USD 200 today.)

Please Note: Anything not declared on this list is not covered by the policy.

  • What If My Goods Are Stored at Origin or Destination?

Origin: Secure Freight International (P) Ltd. has a Kathmandu warehouse that is fully insured and all the shipments stored in it are insured for a basic amount of USD $10,000. In case your shipment is of greater value, it is advised that a separate cover is purchased for the storage time also.

Destination: Destination storage should be mentioned in the transit policy or requested before arrival of the shipment at the destination so that the Insurance can be extended upon payment of an extra fee.
